Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state has failed to deliver his first promise to the people of the state after spending a month and some days without appointment of his executive cabinet.

Kefas earlier made announcement to the people during a paley with journalist working in the state on his readiness to nominate his team of commissioners and members of his executive cabinet to present to the state house of assembly for onward screening within the first month in office as the governor of the state.

After taking oath of office on the 29th of May 2023, Kefas made the declaration on the 2nd of June 2023 when he summoned all the media practitioners (Both conventional and social media) working in the state at the Executive Chambers of Taraba State Government House to reinstate his commitments to his manifestos during campaigns.

The governor at the occasion reassured the people of the state that he was ready to hit the ground running and also capable of appointing members of the executive council if he would be allowed to do it on his own.

“If I am to single out commissioners across the sixteen local government areas to work with me, I can simply do that now and present to the state house of assembly for screening, but is what I can’t do alone, I must have to carry the stakeholders and my party PDP along.

“I want to run an all inclusive governance, I will not want to be accuse of one man governance, but my assurances to the people is that we are going to form the state executive cabinet within my one month in office so that we can hit the ground running. The governor insisted.

“Women and youths are important segments of our development programme. I will work hand in hand with Youth Organizations in Taraba State to produce an impressive blueprint for youth development. I plan to ensure the speedy implementation of their recommendations. More importantly, let me assure our women that our administration will be gender–sensitive in all appointments.

LEADERSHIP gathered the appointments to form the executive council of Taraba state had encounter glitches when the governor insisted to offer 75 percent of the cabinet opportunities to youths between the ages of 35 to 50 years.

Confirming the development, Alhaji Abubaka Bawa, the chairman Taraba state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party PDP told our correspondent that the governor had written to the party to communicate to the stakeholders at local government levels for appointment of the state executive cabinet.

He further stated that the state secretariat had already forwarded the governor’s wish to the appropriate quarters at local government levels.

Our correspondent further gathered that, the old aged politicians hijacked the list for nomination of the members of the executive council as against the proposed plan of the governor to work mostly with youths, a development that hampered formation of the council in the state for over a period of one month as earlier promised by the governor.
