The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that major infrastructure projects lined up for commissioning to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office have been fully completed and are ready for inauguration.
Wike made the declaration on Thursday after inspecting several ongoing and completed projects across Abuja, expressing satisfaction with the quality of work delivered by contractors handling key infrastructure across the territory.
He said all inspected projects were fully ready for commissioning and would be unveiled to residents as part of activities marking the President’s anniversary.
“We are set to go. I would say all the projects we inspected are 100 per cent ready,” Wike said.
The minister began the inspection tour at the newly completed interchange linking Jahi and Gwarimpa, executed by CBC Construction Company, where he praised the contractor for delivering a high-standard project with installed streetlights and finishing works.
“We went to the interchange that leads to Jahi and Gwarimpa that has been carried out by CBC. The streetlights have all been put in place. I’m very happy with the quality of the job,” he stated.
Wike also inspected the Abuja Airport Road to Kuje Road project handled by Arab Contractors, describing it as a “beautiful job” and commending the installation of street lighting along the corridor.
He further visited Kuje, where Gilmore Construction Company is handling road projects, noting that the works there were also satisfactorily executed.
“Then we went to Kuje… and they did a very fine job. We are very happy with what they have done there,” he said.
According to him, the new road network would significantly reduce travel time between the city centre and satellite communities, particularly Kuje.
“At the satellite town, you can see that you can drive from the city down to Kuje in less than 25 minutes,” he added.
The minister also inspected the refurbished City Gate, describing it as a landmark project that may be inaugurated at night to showcase its lighting and aesthetic appeal.
“We believe that… the City Gate will be inaugurated sometime in the night so that we can see the beauty of the place,” he said.
Wike said the completed projects represent tangible evidence of governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
“Governance is in action. These are dividends of democracy. People need hope, and it is working,” he stated.
He disclosed that commissioning activities are expected to begin next week, subject to final approval from the Presidency.
“We believe that from Monday, we will start the commissioning of these projects,” he said.
The minister also appealed to journalists to highlight the ongoing transformation in Abuja, describing them as key partners in communicating government achievements.
“When you do something and people are happy with what you’re doing, you will also be happy,” he said.
Wike revealed that commissioning dates for key projects such as the Outer Southern Expressway and the Airport Road-Kuje corridor would be finalised by the Presidency, while additional road projects are also expected to be flagged off as part of the anniversary programme.
