Secretary to Abia State government, Kenneth Kalu has said the ongoing verification of civil servants and pensioners in the state is not a witch-hunting exercise.

Kalu stated this at the inauguration of the state committee on staff verification, audit, and human resources management in Umuahia the state capital, yesterday.

He said, “The essence of the exercise is to identify the actual workforce and to build an effective and reliable civil service system in the state.”

According to him, the exercise would be conducted in the ministries, departments, agencies, parastatals, tertiary institutions, and among pensioners.

While charging the committee to come up with a report that would go a long way to sanitise the system, he stated that the members should bring their wealth of experience to bear on the exercise.

Kalu, who said the members were chosen from various sectors of the economy of the state, added that the committee is expected to submit its report within three weeks.
