Niger Gov Creates 8 New Ministries, Posts 40 Perm Secs

Niger State governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has created eight new ministries and approved the posting of 40 permanent secretaries in a bid to strengthen the apparatus of government.

In a circular HOS/NS/41/11/310 by the state head of service (HoS), Engineer Abubakar Yahaya Salisu released yesterday said the governor also approved the appointments of five new permanent secretaries.

He said, “Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has directed all the affected permanent secretaries to complete all handling and taking over formalities within one week from the date of the posting July, 17, 2023.”

The new ministries listed in the circular were the ministry of Secondary and Tertiary Health, ministry of Communication Technology and Digital Economy, ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and ministry of Homeland Security.

Others are the ministry of Power & Renewable Energy, the ministry of Rural Development, the ministry of Humanitarian Affairs & Disaster Management, and the ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal.

Also, the newly appointed permanent secretaries are Umar Zukogi posted to the ministry of Housing and Rural Development, Aishatu Yelwa Nuhu – Information and Strategy, Dr. Matthew Ahmed – Livestock and Fishery,  Barrister Mairo Mann- Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management while the immediate past commissioner of Health Dr Mohammed Makusidi  was returned to civil service as permanent secretary,  Special Duties in the office of the Secretary to the State Government.

While some permanent secretaries retained their former offices others were reshuffled, those that retained their former offices were those of government house, General services, Establishment, Local government as well as security and home affairs.
