The chief of defence staff, maj-gen Christopher Musa has assured Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule that the military is being proactive and has mapped out strategies to tame any unwanted development in the state due its closeness to the FCT

He stated this yesterday after a closed-door meeting with the governor over the influx of bandits and other criminals from Plateau State occasioned by the military onslaught against them.

Speaking to journalists at the Defence headquarters, Abuja after the meeting, Sule said he deemed it fit to visit the military chief in order to be proactive before anything untoward happens in the state.

According to him, apart from coming to congratulate the maj.-gen. Musa on his appointment as defence chief, the action became imperative because of the state’s proximity to the seat of power and the nation’s capital – the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He said, “First and foremost, as you know, Nasarawa State has the largest proximity to the Federal Capital Territory among other states, so, the security in Nasarawa State is always very important to the North and to Nigeria. As usual, I am a very regular visitor to this office of the CDS.

“I used the opportunity to congratulate him (CDS) because I haven’t been able to congratulate since he was appointed, and today (Wednesday) happens to be his one month in office and it is significant for me to visit and congratulate him.

“I also used the opportunity to discuss a few issues about the security challenges that may come up.

And as the head of security agencies, I believe very strongly that he’s in a better position to handle them.”

Reacting, the CDS told newsmen that they are being proactive and they have already mapped out strategies to tame any unwanted development in the state due its closeness to the FCT.

“You have just heard from him the security challenges facing the state. You know how strategic Nasarawa State is to Nigeria, FCT particularly. What we tried to do, what we exchanged is to look at it generally and we’ve the importance and the need to ensure that we maintain peace within Nasarawa State,” the top military chief said.
