Just as population increases  on a daily basis, so also is increase in demand for milk consumption both by new born babies, children, youths and adults across the country. Hence, engaging in milk production will yield much revenue for investors.

Additionally, investing in milk production could be an alternative means of money-making, if you are already committed to an investment.

Such entity creates jobs with muliple chain of  businesses. For instance, the yoghurt, ice-cream makers, and so on, being some of the areas where milk can be used. So, an aspiring investor can also invest in this value chain.

Similarly,  milk production, which can also be called dairy farming, would be revenue-generator as annual demand for fresh milk production in Nigeria hovers  around 560,000 to 570,000 tonnes of milk, yet market demands could reach about 1.7 million tonnes per year, because there is a noteceable gap to be filled.

New entrant into the dairy industry will enjoy much patronage, as such, will help to bridge the gap.

Though, some states, mostly from northern part, are endowed with cow and milk production, however, Sokoto State is known as the largest cow, beaf and milk producer in the country.

As expert in agrobusiness, Dan Fulani in Sokoto State says, Dairy cows are required to give birth to one calf annually before producing milk for 10 months of the year. They are usually artificially inseminated within three months of giving birth.

He says, cows get to  full maturity at two years, adding that, on average, a cow will produce six to seven gallons of milk each day.

Similarly, Alhaji Sule Lamido, also a herder from Sokoto State but has some cows at Kara area, said: “Investment in milk production must begin with having herds or enter into partnership with herdsmen who can give room for milk production.

“Since extracting milk from cow can be tough one, one prepare means of preservation of the milk or liase with customers for immediate sales to avoid wastage. There is need for vast land to take care of the cows or one is not chanced to get large land, then he  must get people to help feed them with grass with lots of water on daily basis.

Possible Income

If done on a large scale, your annual profit, according to my findings, will run into several millions of Naira. This is so because, the big companies who are into milk production will always patronise you, meaning, you already have a ready-made market for your product.

Even on a small scale, your income can still worth a million Naira annually.

Business Capital

You will need a minimum of N5million to key into this business because it will involving cow rearing, unless you have partnership with cow rearers to just extract milk from their cow. In this instance, you may need less than a million to start.
