Police Arrest 3 For Murder, Theft In Ekiti

Three suspects have been arrested for the murder of an 85-year-old farmer identified as Awe Taiwo in Ekiti State.

The trio of Ogunlusi Damilola, Olorunsola Segun, and Sekoni Tunde, were said to specialise in attacking farmers and stealing their farm produce.

They were arrested on 13/07/2023 at about 1400hrs, by the State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) upon a complaint lodged against them.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sunday Abutu, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, said: “During interrogation the suspects confessed that on 12/07/2023 at about 1700hrs, they went to the complainant’s farm situated off lyin-Ado express road, lyin-Ekiti, attacked him with machete and carted away some tubers of yam.

“They further confessed that on the 27/06/2023, they entered another farm settlement at Ipole-Ekiti where one Awe Taiwo Julius ‘m’ was inflicted with serious injuries and ten tubers of yam were carted away in the process.”

Abutu added that the 85-year-old Julius later died while receiving treatment at Ekiti State Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.

“The stolen yam tubbers were recovered, while effort is still ongoing to arrest other members of the gang now at large,” the PPRO further stated.

He added that the suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as investigation was concluded.
