A women rights activist in Gombe State and the executive director of a non- governmental organisation, Advocacy for Children’s Right Initiative, Martha Daniel, has appealed to Governor Inuwa Yahaya to consider at least 10 women in the list of 30 special advisers he is proposing to appoint in his second term in office.

The state House of Assembly recently approved the governor’s request to appoint 30 advisers in his administration’s second tenure.

In a press release, Daniel decried the low political representation of women in Gombe State pointing out that in the whole state assembly, there is no single female lawmaker.

She said the state governor could remedy the situation by considering an adequate number of women in the State Executive Council (SEC) as advisers and commissioners.

“The Gombe State House of Assembly last week set up standing committees and Hon Gabriel was appointed to head the committee on women affairs. This is as a result of the fact that after the last election, unfortunately no woman was elected into the State House of Assembly making Gombe State to fall into the category of states in the country without a female representation.

“To bridge this gap, I urge the governor who has been granted approval by the State House of Assembly to appoint 30 special advisers to at least give 10 slots to reputable women in the state.

“I further call on the governor to double the number of women appointed as commissioners during his first tenure as this will brighten the image of his leadership style,” she said.
