Police Corporal Allegedly Kills Female Colleague, Commits Suicide In Kogi

A police corporal has allegedly shot and killed a female colleague before taking his own life at ASCO Camp, Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

The incident, which occurred on October 23, 2026, involved Corporal Amos Yusuf and Woman Corporal Grace Onimisi, both serving officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Kogi State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat.

The Command said the incident was reported at about 11:04 p.m., prompting the Divisional Police Officer in Ajaokuta to lead a team of officers to the scene.

According to preliminary findings, Yusuf, who was on night duty, allegedly shot Onimisi before shooting himself.

However, a LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the officers were reportedly in a romantic relationship that had recently broken down.

Sources familiar with the incident alleged that Yusuf was angered by Onimisi’s decision to end the relationship before the shooting.

The police said both officers were rushed to separate medical facilities, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. Their remains were subsequently deposited at the mortuary of ASCO Hospital.

An AK-47 rifle and four expended cartridges were recovered at the scene as exhibits, according to the command.

The police disclosed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for an in-depth investigation, adding that the circumstances surrounding the incident and the motive remained under investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, expressed condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officers.

The Command assured the public that verified updates would be provided as appropriate and cautioned against speculation on issues yet to be established by investigators.
