Recall that the House Speaker, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, had on Thursday unveiled a list of Chairmen of 134 Standing Committees of the House, naming Hon. Alabi as Chairman of the Works Committee.

In a statement on Saturday, Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato North/South Federal Constituency of Imo State, said Alabi and his counterpart in Appropriations Committee, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, have the capacity to help in ensuring that more development comes to Nigeria’s infrastructure sector.

He appealed to the duo to ensure compliance to resolutions reached by the House on reconstruction of several roads in Imo State.

Meanwhile, Ideato youths have hailed Appropriations Committee Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Bichi, and Works Committee Chairman, Akin Alabi, on their appointments.

While congratulating the duo, the youths in a statement by their leader, Engr. Chidi Adu, appealed to them to help ensure collapsed roads in Ideato land are repaired.

The youths said, “We appeal to Hon. Bichi and Hon. Alabi to ensure compliance to resolutions of the motions sponsored by our representative, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu. The resolutions were mandating the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Environment and the Ecological Fund Office to immediately fix the Mgbe/Umuezeala/Ogboko Bypass in Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State.

“Mandating Federal Roads Maintanance Agency (FERMA) and Federal Ministry of Works to commence immediate repair and reconstruction of the deplorable Oba-Nnewi-Aguata-Akokwa-Arondizuogu-Okigwe Road in Anambra and Imo States. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, had at the resumed plenary, last month referred the motions to the yet-to-be constituted House Committee on Works to ensure full compliance to the resolution of the House. With the composition of the standing committees we appeal that the respective Chairmen ensure compliance to these prayers, as houses and landed properties situated within the precincts of the road have been completely washed off, while many residents have fled from the area, for the fear of their lives.”
