Plane Crash: Safety Bureau Begins Probe, Begs Public For Recorded Evidences

Says 2 occupants survived accident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), on Tuesday, said it has commenced probe into an accident involving a Jabiru J430 light single airplane, asking members of the public to assist with recorded evidences in form of pictures or videos, to aid its comprehensive investigation of the incident.

According to a press statement made available to LEADERSHIP by the spokesperson of NSIB, Tunji Oketunbi, he confirmed that the crash occured about 1500hrs local time on the ever-busy Oba Akran Road in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to Oketunbi, the aircraft caught fire on impact but the spread was contained by the rainfall at the time of occurrence.

He said, “NSIB has been notified and commenced investigation into an accident involving a Jabiru J430, a light single airplane with Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-CCQ operated by Air First Hospitality & Tours, which occurred around a little after 1500hrs local time on August 1, 2023.

“The aircraft was on a test flight within Lagos with two passengers onboard, before it crashed around Oba Akran area of Lagos State with no fatalities. The aircraft caught fire on impact but the spread was contained by the rainfall at the time of impact.

“The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.”
