The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, following an inspection of federal road projects in Cross River State and along the Benue-Cross River axis.
The students’ body announced the decision on Friday after completing an inspection tour of the ongoing projects to assess the quality and progress of work.
The delegation, led by the President of the NANS Senate, Senator Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, comprised national officers, zonal leaders, state executives and campus leaders who conducted a field assessment of the projects.
The roads inspected included the Alesi-Ugep (Iyamoyung-Ugep) section in Cross River State, Sections 3A and 3B of the Calabar Coastal Highway, covering Chainage 0+000 to Chainage 65+000, and the Adikpo-Ajio-Teshe-Ada-Kyogen-Obudu Road linking Benue and Cross River states.
Onyia said the delegation found the work on the projects to be of a commendable standard, with site crews demonstrating discipline and technical competence.
He added that the projects showed steady and measurable progress, noting that the Calabar Coastal Highway stood out because of its scale and ambition.
According to him, the completed roads would reduce travel time, connect border communities, open up farmlands and markets, and reduce accidents and the hardship faced by daily road users.
He also commended the Federal Ministry of Works for what he described as its commitment to maintaining quality and professionalism in the execution of the projects.
Speaking on behalf of Nigerian students, Onyia declared a vote of confidence in Umahi, citing his hands-on leadership and the results recorded on the inspected projects.
He extended the endorsement to President Tinubu, praising his commitment to rebuilding the country’s infrastructure and opening up regions to trade, investment, tourism and economic growth.
