The new chairman of the House Representatives committee on sports, Hon. Ekene Adams Abubakar, has promised to work collectively with his committee members to make laws that will facilitate sports development in the country.

He gave assurance while addressing newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, saying his committee will also work with the executive to ensure that the two bills seeking to establish the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Federal University of Sports passed by the 9th Assembly are signed into law by the President.

The lamaker representing the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) believed with the support of all the relevant stakeholders in the sports sector, there will be a revival in grassroots sports where budding talents abound.

“We will cooperate with one another to make implementable laws for the executive to use in developing sports in Nigeria. As stakeholders, we must come together and embrace peace for sports development.

“I played the game to the highest level, administered it and I also own a club, and now that God has given me another opportunity to chair the House Committee on sports, I’ll do my best to change the narrative with enabling laws that will promote sports in the country,” Adams assured.

The vice-chairman of the committee, Hon. Muhammed Jajere, also pledged the commitment of the committee’s members to complement one another in making enabling laws for the growth of sports.

“We shall do everything to ensure unity among the sports federations. We are committed and dedicated to our responsibilities as members of the Committee on Sports. I am confident that with the support of everyone, we shall deliver on our mandate,” he stated.
