DDWCL, a subsidiary of GTAssets group, is a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) incorporated as the concessioner in charge of the Warri – Effurun Water Plant Reticulation, Rehabilitation and Operation.

Speaking when the company received Delta State’s commissioner for water resources, Dr Isaac Tosan Wilkie, the chief executive officer of the company, Mr Temitope Akinyemi, said rehabilitation work at the plant is 80 percent completed under an earlier works programme and that the design for a hybrid solar power plant to power the water treatment plant is ongoing.

According to him, the company will commence pumping of water to residents in Warri and environs within a couple of weeks.

He said the visit by the state government’s top official marked a crucial step in the state’s commitment to clean and safe drinking water access for its residents, even as it underscored the strides taken by DDWCL in adopting advanced technologies and eco-friendly practices to ensure the security of the city’s water supply.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Warri Water Treatment Plant is a $25 million project initiated by DDWCL and the Delta State Government to demonstrate the bid to establish sustainable and dependable water supply infrastructure in the state and country as a whole.

Mr Akinyemi explained that the project will be fully operational in three phases.

stressing that the Delta State government is strongly supporting the project through a blended finance revenue support guaranty to ensure that it is completed in record time.

He noted that DDWCL has been in Nigeria’s water sector for over 30 years, noting that its ultimate goal is to provide portable clean water while contributing its quota to SDG 7 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

On his part, Dr Wilkie who visited the site in company of the representative of the chairman of the Warri South Council, Dr Michael Tidi and Mr Joseph Oribioye, commended the management of the company for the quality of job done so far.

He expressed optimism that the water scarcity being experienced in the two cities will be a thing of the past soon.
