Warning Strike: NLC Ensures Compliance In Bauchi

Officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) are moving around offices, ministries, departments and agencies of government to ensure total compliance with the two-day warning strike.

The NLC commenced the strike on Tuesday following soaring economic conditions across the country after the federal government removed the subsidy on petrol in May this year.

Bauchi State NLC Chairman Comrade Ibrahim Maikudi said although there was a communication gap, workers in the state are cooperating with the officials.

“There are some little issues of communication here and there. Some of the workers are not fully aware of the strike. Yesterday even at the National Council we were also waiting because the National leadership of NLC had a meeting with the federal government and it was late, the meeting proved to be abortive, so that is why there are some little issues of compliance.

“For now, I think almost everybody has complied and so, the level is highly satisfactory,” he said.

Banks in Bauchi metropolis showed total compliance with the strike. A visit to Ahmed Abdulkadir Bank Road, the street housing all commercial banks, revealed that the bank’s premises are empty with an unusual serenity.

Similarly, security operatives could be seen sending customers away, telling them that banks joined the strike.

Some customers who spoke to our correspondent said they were not aware that the strike commenced today.
