Nasarawa APC To Woo Wadada, Akwashiki, Others Back To Fold

All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State said it plans to woo chieftains who defected to other political platforms after the crisis that trailed the APC primary election ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This was disclosed by the new APC chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Bello, in Lafia, yesterday.

LEADERSHIP reports that key stakeholders such as the incumbent Senator representing Nasarawa West senatorial district, Aliyu Wadada; his counterpart from Nasarawa North, Senator Godiyya Akwashiki; and member representing Karu/Keffi/Kokona federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Jonathan Gaza defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as a result of discontent over the last APC primary.

The trio went ahead to defeat their APC opponents during the National Assembly election in the state to grab their respective seats in both House of Representatives and Senate.

The new party chairman, however, assured that all former stakeholders will return to the fold, adding that the efforts of leadership in that regard are showing positive signs.

“As we speak, negotiations are on for our brothers who left the party over irreconcilable differences to return. It’s a key mandate of my leadership that all crises are resolved and our dear party strengthened and made more formidable to confront future challenges.

“And we are already achieving that with the return of the state secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr Francis Uya, who is moving all the state structure of the party to the fold,” he explained.

Our correspondent reports that Mr Uya led 11 local government councils chairmen and all the state working committee members of the party to APC on Tuesday.

He said his move to rejoin APC is because of the chairman’s leadership qualities and the need to build a strong Nasarawa State.

Bello promised to build a more united party where all members would have and equal say and opportunity.

“I promise to deploy and utilise all my many years of experience in party politics to sustain and boost the popularity of the APC particularly in Nasarawa State, and the country in general. I shall not falter or disappoint you.

“As the ruling party in the state, we shall continue to monitor the performances of all appointees under this administration to ensure that they live up to the standards and expectations.

“In this regard, I wish to enjoin all political appointees in the government to key into the ideals of the party policies and programmes which have been designed to better the living conditions of all residents of Nasarawa State,” he said.
