The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has called on all Nigerians to build trust in the judicial system.

Adebayo, who made the remark on his X page (formerly twitter), said as much as fair criticisms and constructive feedback are normal, added that any political party, group or individual who does not believe in Nigerian institutions should not seek to lead Nigeria or contest for presidency.

He stated this against the backdrop of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) judgement which affirmed President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25, 2023 general elections.

The court, last week, dismissed the petitions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi. They have however commenced the process of heading to the Supreme Court.

But reacting to the responses that have trailed the judgement, Adewole said “anyone, group, campaign or party who doesn’t believe in Nigerian laws, Nigerian institutions and fellow Nigerians has no business aspiring to lead Nigeria or contest for or support any contest for the presidency of Nigeria.

Fair criticisms and constructive feedback are normal.”

He further said, “To develop automatic lupus against anything, anyone and everyone and everything that does not suit one’s bias, interest or purpose is an autoimmune disease whose aetiology is anti-democratic and antithetical to any viable Republican Commonwealth. Let us build trust in the system.”
