The director of Amudo Integrated Community Mental Health Foundation, Rev Kenneth Nwubani has warned that hard drug use can trigger mental health and behavioural issues.

Nwubani stated this while speaking to LEADERSHIP in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, saying the challenges include anxiety, restlessness, aggression, and sleeplessness among others.

He raised the alarm over the high rate of drug and substance abuse among youths and called for immediate government and stakeholders’ intervention to address the menace.

“Hard drug and substance use is a serious disease. It affects both the user and the society. Most of the challenges in the society today have connections with the disease,” he said.

Noting that though some of the drugs may be legal, the director argued that using them without doctor’s prescription or proper guidance could be very harmful to the brain and the body structure.
