Ogun 1 Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko Border yesterday disclosed that a total number of 122 trailer trucks of foreign parboiled rice, each weighing 50kg, 1, 245 rounds of live ammunition were among the several contrabands intercepted between February year 2022 and September this year.

The outgoing area controller of the command, Bamidele Makinde, made this disclosure yesterday at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko Border during the handing over to the new controller, Ahmadu Bello Shuaib, following his redeployment to the NCS headquarters in Abuja.

Makinde, who put the total duty payable value (DPV) of the contrabands intercepted at N6. 604 billion, said the success was recorded in the 1, 479 seizures made by the command under the past 17 months when he assumed duty in the command.

Giving a breakdown of the contrabands, Makinde said under his watch, the command generated a total sum of N225,009,835: 50 as revenue for the federal government within the period under review, emphasizing that his 17-months reign witnessed “a significant increase in revenue generation and an improved anti-smuggling performance.

“For emphasis, during this period, the command generated a total sum of N225,009,835.50 as revenue. Interestingly, out of the revenue target of N136,532,168.22 set for the command for the year 2023, we have generated the sum of N127,122,058.00, which is about 91 percent of the target, three months and some days to the end of the year.
