Niola Cancer Care Foundation, the first Colorectal Cancer Care Foundation in Nigeria and West Africa, providing support to patients affected by colorectal cancer, has reinforced its commitment to tackling the disease in the country.

Colorectal cancer is a growth of cells that forms in the lower end of the digestive tract. Most of these cancers start as non-cancerous growths called polyps. Removing polyps can prevent cancer, so healthcare providers recommend screenings for those at high risk or over the age of 45.

Niola Cancer Care Foundation, through its IJOYA Initiative, will be organising for the fifth year, a colorectal screening programme for residents in Lagos state.

The head promotions, programmes and projects, IJOYA 5.0, Olatunji Ola-Davies, in a press statement, made available to LEADERSHIP, said the annual event brings together colorectal cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, volunteers, professional CTs and health experts, stakeholders and participants within the public and private sectors for the purpose of raising awareness about this preventable malignant while promoting ways and means of ameliorating its effects on human survival and livelihoods.

“This year events with collaborative support from global partner, GCCA shall provide another platform for participants and organic food exhibitors to interface with one another while exchanging ideas on how to eat and live healthy.’’

According to him, one of the Special highlights of this year’s events scheduled to hold in Lagos shall be Faecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) and oncology support provided by our partners.

‘’We are deeply committed to ensuring that no one affected by colorectal cancer is left behind as we are removing barriers through contributions to health policies and regulations that will make valuable resources accessible to an even wider audience,’’ he said.
