A coalition, Arewa Youth Conference for Sustainable Future of Nigeria (AYCSFN) condemned moves by some senators to impeach the Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio.

In a press release signed by its president, Hon. Muttaka Ahmed Ibrahim, the coalition’s position was prompted by some reports in the media that some aggrieved senators were planning to impeach the Senate President.

The reports, according to him, indicated that two prominent senators from the North West and other senators in the National Assembly (NASS) were meeting and mapping out plans to carry out the act.

Other members of the coalition are Arewa Youth Development (AYD) and Mass Integration for Peace Initiatives In Nigeria.

They said the plot linked to some northern Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators was aimed at distracting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and hijacking the 10th Senate leadership.

The group in the statement therefore hails Senator Ali Ndume for his efforts in unifying the Senate by telling the senators that Nigerians now have a good leader in the 10th Senate with transparency, capability and commitments to ensure that dividends of democracy are not tampered with.

It said they were ready to recall all the northern senators behind the disloyalty and national disrespect to the office of the Senate President.

“We wish to state that Nigeria is a multi-tribal, and multi-cultural entity that has been patient with the natural resources to develop their communities and regions through political representation, it should be made known that no one is above the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The coalition urged Tinubu to wade into the matter and unmask the masterminds of the plot.
