The Alliance for Democracy and Good Governance (ADGG) has called for the conclusion of a legal suit between former governorship candidate Ugwmba Uche Nwosu and  Action Peoples Party (APP) and three others, before the November 11 Imo State governorship election.

The case is pending at the Supreme Court.

The group, in a statement yesterday, said the people of Imo State deserve justice. They lamented that the matter has not been heard since it was filed four years ago.

The statement which was signed by the group’s convener, Comrade Ochiaka Ugwu said the call became important because another gubernatorial election is scheduled for November 11, 2023 while the Supreme Court is yet to hear the case which has been before it since 2019.

He added that it is upsetting that reminders were put to the court in 2020, 2021 and 2023.

Ugwu said, “The tribunal sitting abinitio was moved to Mararaba because the panel members feared for their lives and posited that they lacked the confidence to get the required security, to aid them in carrying out their functions diligently without fear or favour.

“This is not a good omen for our growing democracy. The Supreme Court must ensure that justice is served not just to the people whose matter is in court but also to the society at large.

“It is crystal clear that the people of Imo State do not want the governor and his cohorts and this resulted in the relocation of the Tribunal Panel out of Imo State. It is worth noting that reminders have been sent to the court since 2019 and to date, no date has been fixed.

“Nigeria’s democracy needs to be strengthened by the Supreme Court as it is the last hope for the common man,” he said.
