She then handed me a form stating crisply that I should write down my account name and number and sign at the bottom. Then as if she just had the thought, she asked that I write my BVN at the top part of the form, all part of the procedure to ensure I owned the account.

I did as I was told and in less than five minutes handed her back the form. She collected it and to my surprise kept it face up so that my BVN which I had scrawled at the top would be visible for whoever cared to see it. I don’t think she meant for it to be seen, but I do think she is careless and really doesn’t know the importance of data protection.

Now the situation was very inappropriate and I told her so. “Excuse me Madam, you know you shouldn’t be exposing my BVN for all and sundry, this is a sensitive information.”
