Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has initiated moves to establish a market called “Kefas Palliatives Market” in Jalingo, the state capital where goods, particularly farm produce would be sold at subsidised rates.

The governor announced the new development in a media briefing. He visited the proposed site for the palliative market at Jalingo Modern Market which was constructed by the former governor of the state, Rev. Jolly Nyame, yesterday. The proposed Kefas Palliatives Market would be located at Pantinapo along Specialist Hospital Bypass.

He said, “The state government will open a palliative market where food and non-food items would be sold at cheaper rates to residents of the state.

While at the proposed site, Kefas said the initiative by his administration to open the market was to give succour to families due to the hardship caused by the removal of subsidy on petrol by the federal government.

The governor insisted that the government cannot continue to roll out food items to feed the people all the time since there are other challenges the government is facing with the present economic hardship in the country.

“No government on earth can afford to continue to feed people all the time, the citizens also have a responsibility to cater for themselves, the best we can do is to assist by ways of paying salaries as at when due, develop the people to be able to take care of their families and also open such opportunities like palliatives market for the people to get items at subsidized rates.

“We have made available funds to procure admission forms at the Nigerian Aviation School Zaria, we are ready to sponsor young men and women who indicate interest to enrol into the school and become Pilots, with such initiatives, we shall be able to train people who will in turn train others and will also be able to feed their homes in our various societies,” he said.
