Minister of water resources and sanitation Prof. Joseph Utsev yesterday canvassed the cooperation of the police in securing farms and facilities of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA) across the country.
This is just as the federal government empowered 50 youths who completed a training programme at the graduate youths empowerment scheme of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Ilorin.
The programme which is an initiation of the federal ministry of water resources was designed to train and empower youths to be self-reliant and meet the nation’s needs in food sufficiency.
The youths from Kwara and Kogi states who were trained in poultry fish farming, horticulture and crop farming were empowered with cash and relevant facilities needed to start their farming businesses.
At the commissioning of a water project constructed by the LNRBDA at the headquarters of the Kwara state police command, Ilorin, the minister said food security is a major component of the Renewed Hope agenda of president Bola Tinubu which he said the ministry was out to actualise.
While presenting empowerment materials to the graduates of the scheme during a food exhibition, the minister charged the beneficiaries to put the knowledge they had acquired and empowerment tools given to them into judicious use.
