Quarantine Service Destroys N16.5m Donkey Skins In Kebbi

The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service  has destroyed  850 confiscated donkey skins worth N16.5 million in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Kebbi state for the second time in two years.

Performing the ceremony yesterday at the outskirts of the state capital Birnin Kebbi, the Zonal Commander, Dr Isah Adamu said the contraband was intercepted along Koko-Yauri road en route Lagos following an intelligence reports from locals.

He revealed that the skins were supposed to be exported to China by unscrupulous elements in the society, warning that the wrath of the law will never spare any person caught in the business because the agency would work round the clock to ensure donkeys never go into extinction.

The Commander said Nigeria as a signatory to the charter protecting domestic and wild animals against extinction therefore Government would respect the treaty to the later adding that the Agency had been enjoying maximum support from sister security agencies to that effect

Also speaking, Kebbi State Comptroller of Customs, Hussaini Ahmed Bello said the fight against crime was everybody’s business, therefore urged the general public to feed the Customs with relevant intelligence reports that would lead to the crackdown of offenders in the state.
