The federal government has unveiledĀ  the Omeife AI and Omeife Digital Literacy Apps, developed by UNICCON Group.

The apps are derivatives of Omeife, Africa’s first humanoid robot, which was launched in December 2022.

The director general of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Mallam Kashifu Inuwa, unveiled the apps yesterday at its headquarters in Abuja.

He spoke about the extraction of services to provide digital literacy adding that the technology was needed to achieve the targeted 95 percent digital literacy in Nigeria.

The apps will provide Nigerians, Africans and the world access to digital literacy and education. They offer translation services from source to target languages such as English, Pidgin English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, French, Swahili and Arabic. They also render subtitling, knowledge assistance, text summarization and video translation.

Mallam Inuwa said the products were significant successes recorded by the company since the launch of the humanoid.

He said,Ā  ā€œOmeifeĀ  can be in the hands of Nigerians to learn in a personalised manner and have an interactive experience. I have gone around the facility and I am impressed with the technologies in place. I am happy with the convergence of technology in this place, from biological, physical, and chemical perspectives.ā€

The NITDA DG expressed admiration for the advanced technologies employed by UNICCON group, and assured of government’s support to the group’s research efforts.
