AIRTIME, Nigeria’s oldest and most respected film and broadcast critique column, has been a robust presence in the sectoral and national conversation since May 1998.

It started as a broadcast watchdog before expanding into film as Nollywood came on stream.

However, rather than being the average predictable film and broadcast critique column, it took the road less travelled by its insightful and sometimes biting commentary on such diverse topics as politics, current affairs, advertising and more.

Thus, AIRTIME has served simultaneously both for its highly regarded analysis of goings-on on movies and broadcasting as well as a strong voice on policy and politics.

While keeping faith with its movie/broadcast core mission, the column delves into other matters which may not entirely be related to the airwaves.

To qualify for AIRTIME treatment, an issue or personality had only to fulfil one requirement: it would have to have been featured on the airwaves.

The AIRTIME style is breezy and witty. Yet it always packs a punch.

For LEADERSHIP Newspapers, AIRTIME would retain these core strengths while expanding into new areas. These will reflect both the new paths in the evolution of AIRTIME as well as our understanding of the specific ways to make Leadership more entertainment oriented.

Specifically, AIRTIME Plus will be multi-pronged: The first plank will rest on the column’s traditional and familiar turf of broadcasting, film, advertising, and related matters. As has always happened, this will not be your ‘mark the register’ TV Watch column but one that highlights the trends and pertinent issues of that sector.

The second plank will examine Politics and Policy issues in the special AIRTIME way.

The third will focus on high profile issues affecting Celebrities and other Personalities who have said or done stuff worthy of note

The fourth plank will look at International Issues and Personalities that the AIRTIME audience can relate to: e.g., Donald Trump, the Kardashians, Justin Trudeau…

The fifth plank focuses on drawing comparative links with Nigeria and Nigerians, home and abroad, Trends and Personalities, with special focus on Canada.

ABOUT ONOSHE NWABUIKWU

Onoshe Nwabuikwu is a Ph.D. candidate (Feminist and Gender Studies), at the University of Ottawa with experience that covers Journalism, Advertising, and Communications. For over two decades, since 1998, she has been writing the popular AIRTIME column, an authoritative voice in the broadcast and film industry for The Punch, Thisday, and The Cable Newspapers. Within this period, she has earned a name as a prolific analyst of radio and television programmes, Nigerian and foreign films as well as entertainment and political trends.

In her quest to hone her craft, Onoshe has participated in some of the world’s most respected television and film events including the Cannes Film Festival, France; the London Film Festival, UK; FESPACO, Burkina Faso and the Toronto International Film Festival, Canada. She has served on Film/TV Jury, notably the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA). Onoshe has also consulted for Nigerian government agencies like the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), and privately-owned companies like the Africa Independent Television (AIT), among others.

Onoshe holds an M.Sc. in Corporate Communications and Reputation Management from the Manchester Business School, University of Manchester, United Kingdom. She also holds a Master of Arts, in Film Studies, from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.
