Egueoje said suspected political thugs who attacked the convoy of his boss in Akwa Ibom State and killed some of his colleagues during the announcement of the 2023 presidential election result are after his life.

The February 25, 2023 election was won by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The police inspector who spoke from his hideout said the hoodlums in retaliation following the announcement of the result, went ahead to set his own house ablaze for rescuing his boss, his family and other members of his entourage from their attack.

He said the incident happened at Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom State.

Egueoje alleged that since then his life had been threatened while his family had gone into hiding.

Narrating his ordeal, Egueoje said, “Upon the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), some political thugs, chanting war songs against the declaration, attacked my principal and other political leaders on our way to the airport on February 28, 2023, at about 8:45am as they believed he might have influenced the result in favour of Tinubu.

“Then myself and other security personnel attached to him prevented them from killing him and his wife and also aided them to escape the town. With the help of God and his bullet proof car, my principal and his wife were rescued unhurt but two of my men were killed at the spot.

“It didn’t end there; they also went to my house to attack my family but with the help of God and neighbours, my wife and family members managed to escape and they burnt down my house,” he said.

A police extract showed that Egueoje who is of the operations department in Benin Police Command has been working with Bassey since 2011.

The extract also indicated that the matter was reported at his office (Benin Command) the very day the incident occurred.

The distraught officer called on the police authorities and other sister security agencies to save him and his family members from being assassinated.
