Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) has raised the hope of a better Kaduna city, taking it from old tradition to a modernised master plan.

Speaking at Kaduna Architects Forum (KADAF 1.0) with the theme; “Cityscape -A New Vision For Architecture in Kaduna”, organised by Kaduna State chapter of the institute, various speakers expressed optimism for a better landscaped Kaduna city that would become more environmentally friendly.

In his remarks, Arch. Ibrahim Mahmood who was involved in the total master plan and design of Karu new town, a satellite village for 100,000 residents in FCT said, “Architects are looking forward to developing Kaduna to Abuja and construct a single street from Kaduna to Abuja. All our Architects are committed to developing Kaduna. Kaduna is very lucky to have its master plan from an early age”.

Earlier, the president, NIA, Arc Enyi Ben-Eboh said architects possess the unique ability to transform the physical environment, “creating spaces that inspire, uplift and enhance the quality of life for our citizens”.

Ben-Eboh who was represented by the NIA 2nd vice president further added that, “Kaduna State, with its rich history, cultural heritage, and diverse population, presents a canvas of immense potential. Our cities are not merely concrete jungles, but living organisms that should reflect our values, aspirations, and the needs of our people.

“They should be vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among all residents. I encourage you to focus on the principles of inclusivity and accessibility in your design.

“Our cities should be places where everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, can thrive and participate fully in social, economic, and cultural activities. Let us strive for barrier-free environments that promote social cohesion and equal opportunities for all”.

In his welcome address, the Kaduna State chairman of NIA, Arc Samuel Obaje said the essence of the first edition of the forum was for the architects to come together to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences that will shape the future of architecture in Kaduna.

Obaje said, “Architecture has the power to inspire, uplift, and transform communities. As architects, you possess the unique ability to envision and create spaces that reflect the aspirations and values of our society. Through your vision, you have the opportunity to shape the physical landscape of our city and leave a lasting legacy for future generations”.

In his remarks, the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamali who was represented by Shitu Dikko, Dan Galadima Zazzau, encouraged architects to always dream big to create architectural legacy for Kaduna State and as well carry communities along to benefit from landscaping and friendly environment.
