Over 500 residents of Paze village in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the FCT have benefited from a free medical outreach by the National Association of Seadogs (NAS).

The outreach titled the “Village Doctor” was organised over the weekend to provide free medical services, including health assessment and on-the-spot free treatment to over 500 residents of the community and environs.

Speaking to journalists during the programme, Nnamdi Eze the Capoon Zuma Deck, said the outreach is part of the humanitarian services of the Association.

He said NAS has been involved in electoral process monitoring, human rights advocacy and community outreach.

According to him, „We identify communities that lack the presence of healthcare services. We understand that the cost of medical care is very prohibitive at a time when families are struggling to make a living. So this is our way of intervening. We are intervening in a gap that is obvious in our society.“

On his part, the coordinator of the outreach, Dr Uju Patrick said the residents were being screened for malaria, typhoid, eye defects and other common ailments.

He said drugs will be provided and also in special cases that need further medical referrals, the association will follow up and pay the medical bills.

He said, “We look at the society and we see where some basic amenities of survival are lacking, then we try to bring in whatever we can. We did a survey of about seven communities in Bwari Area Council and we discovered that this community doesn‘t have any health services despite its large population. We are bringing succour to the residents, no matter how little.“
