Kano Guber: Don’t Intimidate Appeal Court Justices, APC Youths Tell NNPP

An All Progressives Congress (APC) youth group, Progressives League of Youth Voters, has cautioned leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and their followers about intimidating justices of the Court of Appeal entertaining the appeal against the Kano state election petitions tribunal which upturned the victory of Governor Abba Yusuf at the last governorship poll in the state.

In a statement issued in Abuja by its national coordinator, Ambassador Audu Usman Shuaibu, the youth group accused the NNPP of collaborating with the out-going Governor Yusuf to sponsor negative campaign against the judiciary in a bid to blackmail the learned Justices of the appellate court and bully them into subverting the course of justice.

The APC youths said no amount of intimidation or blackmail would deter the higher court from delivering a just judgement.

The youths implored Nigerians to encourage their lordships of the appellate court, especially the ones handling the Kano State governorship appeal not to give in to their gimmicks.

They cautioned politicians to desist from alleged electoral fraud, saying the Nigerian judicial system is determined and strong enough to strengthening democracy by upholding the rule of law at all times.

The statement noted: “The judiciary has proven to be the last hope of the common man with the series of judgements being delivered so far.

“Although various Civil Society Organizations, including the Transmission Monitoring Group TMG have come out openly to admit that, over 165,000 votes allocated to the NNPP were invalid, thereby does not exist in the first instance, the Kano State Governor is still busy funding civil society organisations and some individuals like Femi Falana to attack the high reputation of the judiciary which is being applauded across party line.”

The Kano State governorship election petitions tribunal had on September 20, 2023 nullified the election of Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf as governor of the state and declared Dr. Nasiru Gawun as the duly elected governor of the state after separating over 165,000 invalid votes earlier allocated to the NNPP in the March 18, 2023 governorship poll.
