Zamfara State First Lady, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has vowed to sustain advocacy for girl-child education and support empowerment for women in the State.

Huriyya Dauda, who spoke through a statement signed by her Press Secretary, Rabi Yusuf, on Saturday, said the First Lady has become the State’s most vocal advocate for the protection and advancement of the girl-child through aggressive public awareness campaigns as she has fiercely countered gender-based violence (GBV) and worked tirelessly to eliminate barriers to female education by engaging directly with families and grassroots leaders.

The statement said she has also inspired communities to prioritise schooling for their daughters, effectively complementing the broader educational reforms of the state government and ensuring that the next generation of women is equipped to lead.

On women empowerment, it maintained that “in 2025 alone, more than 5,018 women across the state received specialized business starter packs and financial backing to scale up their small-scale enterprises, reducing poverty and giving them a voice in the economic development of their communities.

“This momentum was further accelerated by the Women Economic Empowerment Programme, which selected 500 women from various parts of Zamfara State to receive direct financial grants. This initiative provided a crucial lifeline to families navigating tough economic times, helping grassroots entrepreneurs stabilize and expand their livelihoods.”

“The First Lady also championed the Women and Youth in Agriculture Support Programme. Through this initiative, over 300 beneficiaries were equipped with modern agricultural equipment, intensive training, and startup capital, while simultaneous campaigns for home gardening successfully boosted community-based food security,” it added.

The First Lady’s strategy of building bridges with traditional institutions, women’s associations and community leaders has fostered an atmosphere of social inclusion, dialogue, and unity that strengthens the very social fabric of Zamfara State.
