A group, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) and the INEC result viewing portal (IREV) are used and work optimally during the Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states governorship elections.

HURIWA also raised serious concerns about the upcoming off-cycle gubernatorial elections, saying these elections are at risk of being influenced by corrupt practices due to the lack of electronic result transmission.

HURIWA in a statement signed by Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko yesterday in Abuja stated that the use of technology for transparent elections, such as electronic result transmission, must be legally ensured to prevent manipulation.

The group also noted that INEC had failed to fulfill its promise to use the bimodal voter registration system (BVAS) and electronic result transmission during the general election, despite legal provisions.

HURIWA emphasised the importance of transparency in the electoral process and questioned the credibility of

INEC’s commitment.
