Alumni of Abia State University, Uturu, from across the world, under the aegis of Zenith Environmental and Social Protection Network (ZESPRONET) has donated laptops worth over N8.5 million to Imo State University, Owerri.

The United States based international president of ZESPRONET, Boris Emeka Oji, said the donation of the 20 units of laptops was in fulfilment of a promise made to the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Uche Chukwumaeze (SAN) last year.

Oji, a practicing physician, said following the group’s annual general meeting in Abuja in 2022, ZESPRONET promised Chukwumaeze that it would be a partner in progress with Imo State University.

He said the group had made good its promise with the delivery of the laptops, adding that it would continue to encourage other individuals and groups to see the need to support public education in the country.

Oji stressed that ZESPRONET’s mantra has always been that a country is as good as its public education system, noting that all hands must be on deck to improve the public education system in Nigeria.

He also said that the group is proud to have embarked on the venture and grateful to the university’s administration for allowing the organisation the opportunity to partner with the institution.

He noted that ZESPRONET has been sponsoring the best graduating female medical student of Imo State University for the past four years.

Oji stressed that Chukwumaeze is a progressive minded administrator and thanked the legal luminary and his administration for partnering with them to positively impact the students and faculty of the university through the donation of the laptops.

He used the opportunity to express gratitude to members of ZESPRONET and their friends and associates who made financial contributions towards making the project a success and hoped that the staff and students of the university will benefit from the use of the laptops.

The management of the university, in a show of appreciation to ZESPRONET for its gesture, caused a plaque to be mounted in honour of all those who donated towards the actualisation of the project.
