Sokoto Commits To Open Government

The Sokoto State government has pledged commitment to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) State2State Open Government Partnership, (OGP) project implementation in the state.

The commissioner for justice, Barrister Nasiru Binji, made the pledge at a progress review of OGP state action plan implementation meeting in Sokoto with relevant stakeholders in attendance.

Barrister Nasiru Binji, a co-chairman at the meeting said the state would support and provide needed funds and adopt use of technology in the implementation of OGP state action plan.

“Ahead of the 2024 budget presentation, the state will facilitate consultative meetings with citizens on budget preparation and policies implementation through town hall meetings,” he said.

 

Open Government Partnership is a global partnership with over 100 countries, where Sokoto State was listed as one of the 200 sub-nationals in February, 2022.

USAID State2State public financial management specialist, Usman Faleye, called on the state’s steering and technical committee to brace up to their responsibilities and  network with more non-state actors and as well, learn from their counterparts in states doing well in the OGP.

 

Non-State Actors co-chairman, Dr Auwal Ahmed Musa, presented the status of OGP implementation in Sokoto state since 2022 to the meeting.
