Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has assured that his government would expedite action to ensure speedy and smooth commencement of an onshore logistics base for maritime support towards easy exploration and exploitation of the inherent potentials in the state.
Governor Eno gave the assurance during a meeting with the management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Solutions Hub Limited (SHL), an indigenous facilitator, at the Government House, Uyo, at the weekend.
He expressed optimism that the deal would work as the government under his watch was politically willing and ready to support investments that would further the development plans of the state in order to create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth.
The base, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered, would be located on a 40 – square kilometer expanse of land within the coastal community of Ibaka in Mbo local government area, around the already designated Free Trade Zone (FTZ).
Modelled along the designs of other FTZs in the country, the facility when completed is expected to offer off-shore construction supports to cover the West and Central African regions.
The governor commended the team for the decision to invest in the state, and promised that government would play its part in ensuring a smooth take off of the business.
The leader of the delegation, NNPCL’s executive vice president (Upstream), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, thanked the governor for his interest in developing the economy of the state with a promise that the team was committed to ensuring that the project would be successfully implemented in the state.
