Traders in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the auspices of the National Association of Nigerian Traders (NANTs) have elected new officers to coordinate its affairs in the nation’s capital.
The new executives are elected as the chairman Ifeanyi Okonkwo, first vice chairman Lawal Stephen and second vice chairman, Augustine Njeako.
Other officers are general secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, assistant secretary, Nweke Chinedu Samuel, financial secretary Ibrahim Opeyemi Lawal, and Treasurer Nonyelum Ifeanyi Innocent.
However, the positions of PRO, provost 1, and welfare secretary went to Ihejirika Joseph Chinedu, Obiora John Peter, and Mrs Sanusi Mujidat respectively.
However, the position of women leader went to Dr (Mrs) Rachael Adewumi.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman said that the election shouldn’t be a do-or-die affair, even as he added there should be no winner, no vanquished.
Okonkwo, therefore, promised to make the association stronger, by collaborating with the minister of the FCT, toward reducing members’ high and double taxation, ensuring that traders get incentives and soft loans from government and private banks at minor reduced interests.
He also promised women empowerment, housing to all members, health insurance scheme, sports, which according to him will promote unity.
While the BoT chairman of the association, Chief Peter Chukwu, who doubles as the observer during the election, hailed the election and urged the executives to promote unity and progress.
