Islamic Group Gives Scholarships To 857 Muslim, Christian Students In Nasarawa

A group, Islamic Society of Eggonland (ISE) has awarded scholarships to 857 students cutting across two major faiths for the 2023/2024 academic session in Nasarawa State.

The breakdown showed that 546 Muslims and 208 Christians benefited from the initiative.

The statistic also indicated that out of the 857 beneficiaries, 340 were females with 517 males.

Briefing journalists in Nassarawa Eggon local government area of the state, the secretary general of the body, Umar Abdullahi Gale said the beneficiaries include PhD, Masters, undergraduates, polytechnics, school of nursing, Colleges of Education students among others.

According to him, preference is given to Law and Engineering students and other related fields with high tuition fees above social sciences and arts courses in shortlisting candidates for tbe scholarship.

Mr. Galle also explained that although the initiative was targeted at indigents students of Eggon extractor initially, it has been expanded to include all indigenous tribes and other Nigerians from poor homes residing in the state.

He said that the 2023/2024 scholarship is the largest since the inception of the programme 10 years ago, adding that out of the 857 recipients, 526 were new applicants,while 331 were old or existing beneficiaries.

“The scholarship progamme is very diverse and inclusive, covering students from different religions, gender, and academic fields. We believe that education is key to empowerment and development, and we are committed to supporting students who have the potential and the passion to achieve their dreams,” he stated.
