Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, yesterday, applauded the complementary efforts of the state government in ensuring sustainable peace and security for socio-economic development of the state, saying his administration’s blueprint, “Arise Agenda” has rural development as one of the major planks.

The governor spoke yesterday at Afaha Obo Ata Essien village, in Ukanafun local government area of the state where he inaugurated a new Police station initiated and completed by the council chairman, Dr Godwin Inyieng, to further stem security challenges that bedeviled the area in the last couple of years.

Represented by the chairman, Akwa Ibom Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Mr Monday Eyo, the governor noted that the essence of government at the third-tier was to engender grassroots development, noting that Pastor Inyieng‘s era since 2020, has brought unprecedented dividends of democracy to the people and enjoined the residents to protect the facilities.

He assured that his administration was committed to improving the welfare of the people through investment in agriculture, physical infrastructure, health, education, electricity, roads, security and other social amenities across the 31 LGAs.

Inyieng commended Governor Eno, and the immediate past Governor Udom Emmanuel, for the financial leverage accorded the council to embark on grassroots developments, pointing out that the Council under his watch since 2020, has intervened to instill sanity in Ukanafun, by curbing the perennial security challenges that stalled development over the years.

He stressed the need for sustainable peace and development of the council and informed his decision to build and equip the new police station that would also be vested with oversight security duties around the neighouring communities in the adjoining LGAs.

Commending his performance, the political leader and former member representing Ukanafun federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Obong Eno Akpan, who chaired the occasion, described the achievements of Inyieng as unprecedented and stressed the need for unity of purpose to achieve a lasting peace in the once troubled council.
