The Committee on Screening and Verification of Employment conducted by the immediate past administration of Kano State has reinstated 9,332 workers to the Civil Service out of the 12,566 whose salaries were suspended on inception of the current administration.

This was made known yesterday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Abdullahi Baffa Bichi who spoke on the decision of the government on the committee’s report.

He explained that the 22-member technical committee that was set up by the state government to screen and verify the entire process leading to the recruitment exercise completed its task and submitted to the state governor and a white paper was issued to that effect approving their employment.

Bichi further explained that to complement the confirmation of their employment, for which provision was not made in the 2023 budget, a supplementary budget of over N507 million has been provided in the 2023 personnel budget to cater for it.

“Let me at this juncture convey to you government’s decision that from the total number of 12,566 across the 51 MDA’s screened, 9,332 staff members were found to be eligible and were therefore approved for employment into the Civil Service of the state with a financial implication of gross salary of N507,200,464 through the making of supplementary budgetary provision in the 2023 personnel budget,” he stated.

The SSG also explained that the employment exercise by the immediate past regime was marred by violations of the civil service rules in the state.

According to him, these include employment of underaged persons, uncertified persons, the enrollment into the state payroll without offer of employment or station of duty, thereby giving room to ghost workers.
