42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
Introduction
As we looking at THE EXPECTED CHRIST, OUR MESSIAH. That word, “expect”, “expectation”, is the desire to see, aspiration for something greater and higher than you are. It begins with the story of mankind.God created the whole universe, the heaven and the earth. After creating everything, He created man and woman, and blessed them and gave them all the good things they could ever expect. Everywhere God is present, there is always blessing. He also gave them command to have dominion, and subdue the earth. He told them to multiply and replenish the earth. God created them for fellowship just as He created you for fellowship.
You might have heard the story that the present world is not the way God created it originally. The devil came to the man and woman, tempting them and they surrendered the dominion and all good things the heavenly Father gave them. Man went into sin and the world bacame lost in sin, evil, and they became low while God was high. They needed someone to bring them up and back to the original position and into the blessing of God. That was why Jesus came. He came as the Saviour and Messiah.
There are two people whom Jesus showed Himself to as the Messiah. The first one was a woman – humanity lost out through the woman and the Messiah came so He could reveal Himself to the woman as the Messiah. He also revealed Himself to the man because humanity was also lost through him. Humanity lost, and restoration was necessary for both man and woman.
- The Woman At The Well (John 4:25-26)
The woman had expectations that the Messiah would come and her life would be restored. Christ is the Messiah and the Messiah is Christ. He is the source of life and blessing. We need to have expectations that life will become better, higher and greater, that the blessing of God will come upon us satisfactorily.
The woman was down, low, sinful and defiled and was expecting a change to come when the Messiah would come and tell them all things. She desired that He would not only come to the nation, but to come to her directly and show her all she needed to have to have a blessed life.
In vs 26, Jesus said to the woman, all women of the world, and all daughters of Eve that He was the One, the Messiah. The woman was shocked because she was not expecting that the Messiah had come, she thought He would come later in the future.
- Revelation – The Messiah revealed Himself as the Messiah.
- Recognition – It is something for you to have the revelation, it is another thing to have recognition that the expected One has come.
iii. Redemption – Christ who revealed Himself to the woman came with redemption for humanity. Therefore, the woman left her waterpot and ran to the city to tell everyone that the expected Messiah had come.
- Simon Peter (John 1:41-42)
The world was lost through the man and the woman, the revelation of the Messiah also came to the man and the woman. The woman we have looked at before represents all women in the human race while Peter represents all men in the human race. The same revelation came to the men as well as the woman, and there is recognition and redemption as well.
As Peter came to Christ, Jesus looked at him – when Jesus looks at you, He sees your past, present and future. He sees what you have been, what He will make of you now and in the future. He x-rays you. He knew that all we lost in Adam will be restored to us through him. Christ called Peter Cephas, a stone because He knew what he would be in the future.
Accepting Christ brings salvation and redemption to all humanity.
- THE PROPHECY OF HIS BIRTH
Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
This is how everyone came to the world, by birth. Jesus came to the world through Virgin Mary. There were many prophecies of His coming before He eventually came. Time would fail us to read all the prophecies.
Genesis – this is the book of the beginning. From the beginning also came sin, problems and lostness. Throughout history, the prophecy of the coming of the Lord kept coming up in different ways. Moses talked about it and many others, and this created a high expectation in the hearts of the people.
Isaiah 9:6. Prophecy is what is written about a future occurrence as if it has happened. The place and location where the Lord would be born was given. He is given us as Saviour, Redeemer, Solution to all problems and Joy to the whole earth. He is given to us to give us revelation, redemption and bring the joy of heaven to us. Many people celebrate Christmas, but they don’t know the purpose of Christ’s coming. They don’t even give to Him the government of their lives. When you recognize His Lordship, your life turns around. You have suffered enough and carried woes around enough but Christ has come and will supply all needs in your life. And your life will change from woeful to wonderful.
He becomes your Counselor who lives with you and shows you how to get the riches of His Kingdom. As you recognize Him as your Messiah, and surrender all, and give yourself to Him unreservedly, He comes to you and leads you in the paths of righteousness and restoration.
He is the everlasting Father, mighty to save and deliver, He is given to you, and He has the might to save, heal and deliver. He is the Father of Eternity. Everyone born into the world has eternity and Christ knows how to change your life for the better.
He is the Prince of peace. Peace in your life and soul. Everyone is looking for peace because where there is no peace, there is confusion. Many times we try to negotiate peace amongst ourselves, yet, we see no peace. Nothing works but we all need the peace that comes from the Prince of peace.
- THE PURPOSE OF HIS BIRTH
Matthew 1:21 “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.”
Some people don’t pay attention to the purpose of the coming of Christ. God never does anything without a purpose. He is God and knows everything from the beginning to the end. He created us for a purpose, He is connecting you to Christ the Saviour for a purpose.
Matthew 1:21. Christ came to the world through a special route, and the purpose is of God. Why did Jesus come? Why did He come to save me? Why am I a Christian? Why did I open my heart to the Lord? Why am I here today? Why do I have the Saviour redeeming my life?
Why did Jesus come? To save His people from their sin. People are His creatures. We did not create ourselves. He will save all people who come through His saving power. He saves them from sin and the power of sin.
Have you done anything that Christ would not approve of? The command is to love Christ with all the heart, have you done this? No. Anything you do everyday which has become an habit is sin. But He forgives us and saves us from sin and all consequences of sin.
- THE POWER FROM HIS BIRTH
Acts 10:38 “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”
You have to come to Christ to manifest power over sin. When you open the door and receive Him as Messiah, Lord and Saviour, as Christ the Conqueror, and allows Him to save you, the joy of salvation fills your heart and His power is manifested in your life.
Christ has power to save, deliver and restore everyone into the purpose of God. Power to make all things right, power over sin. We were helpless, hopeless, but Christ came, and satan is no match to Him. When Christ comes, satan has to leave. His power takes care of all sicknesses. Power to remove suffering here on earth and in eternity. He is Jesus! Saviour, Redeemer and Liberator. He saves from sin and sickness.
He didn’t stay in one place, He went about doing good to the young, old, men and women. Salvation is good, deliverance, forgiveness, healing, solution to all problems are good – He went about, doing good. He is here tonight, He will do good for you and give you full restoration in your life. The Father approves all the good that Jesus wants to do for you tonight.
This is the opportunity you are having tonight, to give yourself to Him.
Revelation. Recognition. Redemption.
The joy of salvation and eternity begins tonight as you give yourself to Him now. Bow your head and talk to the Lord in prayer.
