Governor Uba Sani has reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting persons with disabilities (PLWDs) in Kaduna State, adding that “there is no going back on our agenda for the disabled.”

The governor, who restated the administration’s unwavering determination to enthrone inclusiveness and integration of persons with disabilities in the State, spoke on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD).

He said the future of persons with disabilities rests on regular and robust engagement with their leaders “in order to better appreciate their most-important needs as citizens of Kaduna State,” adding that the SUSTAIN Agenda of his administration was more about supporting the poor, underserved and special people like those with disabilities.

Senator Uba Sani called on stakeholders to heed the annual call by the United Nations to “mobilise support for critical issues relating to the inclusion of persons with disabilities, promote awareness about disability issues and draw attention to the benefits of an inclusive and accessible society for all.”

The annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations’ General Assembly resolution 47/3. It is celebrated on December 3 around the world. UN agencies, civil society organisations, academic institutions and the private sector are encouraged to support activities marking the day.
