A source who resides in the area told LEADERSHIP Friday that the assailants shoot sporadically while rounding up students who tried to flee their residence during the attack.

“Some of us were lucky to have escaped into the nearby bushes,” she said.

The state police command’s public relations officer, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident but said information on the development is still sketchy.

“These kidnapping details are sketchy. The command has tried to get facts and identity of the victims but to no avail thus, we are finding it difficult to authenticate,” he stated.

The institution’s public relations officer,  Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, said the inventory of the students affected is being compiled.

He gave the number of those confirmed to have been kidnapped at press time as five.

“It is too early to ascertain the exact number of students because those affected are not living within the school but off campus.

“From available information the number of students abducted is between three to five. However, the university is working hard to ensure all students live within the school campus,”,he explained.

There has been rising cases of attacks by gunmen around the university communities in recent time.

Early last month, a 300-level student of Sociology Department of the school was shot while a popular businessman was kidnapped in a raid on the same Gandu community.

Worried by the incessant attacks, Governor Abdullahi Sule promised to beef up security around the institution.
