A former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has demanded that a proper audit of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) be carried out.

Sanusi has also kicked against the president playing the role of a petroleum minister in Nigeria.

He made this call while delivering his address at the ongoing Bank Directors Summit at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Sanusi revealed that this call was what cost him his job as the CBN governor, a position he held from June 2009 and February 2014.

He also submitted that the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) should remain operational until banks get together and pay up what they owe the system.

According to the former CBN boss, the banking sector must shore up its trust deficit in the eyes of Nigerians.

Sanusi also pointed out that there would be no need whatsoever to amend the CBN Act in a bid to keep the apex bank free of political influences.
