Ahead of the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, the Campaign Organisation of Senator Monday Okpebholo, a.k.a ‘Akpakomiza’, Saturday, insisted that power should shift to Edo Central Senatorial district of the State, noting that the zone parades qualified aspirants who can deliver good governance to the people of the state.

The spokeperson to Senator Monday Okpebholo Campaign Organisation, Rt. Hon. Paul Ohombamu, who represented his principal as special guest of honour at the 2023 Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week event in Benin City, said Okpebholo if given the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket will replicate his robust representation and public service at the state level.

He said the incumbent Edo Central Senator is the first to break the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) dominance in Edo Cental zone, which he noted further, gave credence to his popularity and love by the people.

He said, “Beyond the issues of zoning, I want you to know that Edo Central parades competent, intelligent people and administrators par excellence which is not in short supply and people who can govern without any issues like Monday Okpebholo.

“Edo Central is too small for him even though he is representing them well. Yes, Edo South has the number, but we don’t control the ballot, we have discovered that Edo South is a mixed multitude and who said a Benin man will vote for a Benin man?.

“Politics is dynamic just like what Late Chukwumerijie said, ‘politics is like a woman’s bikini, what is revealed is very interesting, but what is conceived is even more affirmative’. Monday Okpebholo has all it takes to govern Edo State and deliver the goods.”

On the argument that Okpebholo should concentrate on his current senatorial assignment, he said: “He is working already and in any case, he will deliver more as a governor for Edo people than a Senator? And this is someone who gives, he is an alternate government where governance has failed.

“He has provided transportation, healthcare and all the things you can think of. He has covered all the areas in Edo Central and they know this as a fact. Edo Central is small for him and should be given the spectre to control the entire state.

“He is the first to win for APC in Edo Central which was dominated by the PDP and he won for the first time. Today, Edo Central is now represented by the APC and he started it by defeating an incumbent. Not having Monday Okpebholo come 2024 will be paradise lost.”

The event also featured a presentation of awards of excellence to deserving individuals.
