The campaign team of activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has threatened legal action against individuals allegedly spreading false narratives, cyberbullying and defamatory content against her following recent controversies around internal party processes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In a statement signed by Daniel Anyanwu on Thursday, Team Aisha Yesufu accused some individuals of circulating misleading videos and narratives it said were aimed at undermining her reputation and causing disunity within the party.

The team said that despite dissatisfaction with what it described as irregularities during the party process, Yesufu accepted the outcome in good faith and opted for peace over confrontation.

It stated that she had also embarked on a thank-you tour across communities after the exercise, even in the face of disappointment among some of her supporters.

“We accepted the party’s decision in good faith. We have not sponsored any protest, nor have we lobbied for favours, despite the deep sense of injustice felt by many of our supporters,” the statement said.

The group warned that it would not hesitate to take legal and constitutional steps against individuals or groups involved in defamation or deliberate attempts to damage Yesufu’s reputation.

It also urged journalists and media organisations to ensure proper verification of information relating to the activist before publication, stressing the need for accuracy, fairness and fact-checking.

“Our silence should not be mistaken for weakness, our patience should not be mistaken for surrender, and our commitment to peace should not be mistaken for acceptance of falsehood,” the statement added.

The development comes amid growing reactions following internal political developments involving the activist and her supporters in the FCT.
