A tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has resulted in three fatalities and left seven individuals injured. The incident, involving a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number RLG 846 XA and a trailer marked JJN 32 YX, occurred at the Conoil filling station axis on Saturday evening.

Mrs. Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the details of the accident in a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta.

According to Okpe, the collision, which took place at 9:23 p.m., was attributed to excessive speeding, causing the driver of the bus to lose control.

The accident involved a total of 18 individuals, comprising 16 men and two women. Among them, seven sustained injuries while three tragically lost their lives.

The injured victims were promptly transported to Idera Hospital in Sagamu for medical treatment, while the deceased were respectfully deposited at the hospital’s morgue.

In response to this incident, the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, emphasized the need for motorists to exercise caution during this period characterized by high vehicular movement and reduced visibility due to weather conditions.

Expressing concern over speeding habits among motorists, Uga stressed the importance of adhering to reasonable speed limits, citing that “Common sense speed limit is the best.”
