The ancient town of Kaduna, the headquarters of the northern region, went agog on Saturday as President Bola Tinubu flagged off his re-election campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu was accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi; Vice President Kashim Shettima; the leadership of the National Assembly; All Progressives Congress (APC) governors; the national chairman of the party, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; members of the National Working Committee; lawmakers; ministers; and chieftains of the party.
Addressing the crowd that filled Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna, the president thanked the people of Kaduna and appealed for their usual support to enable him to consolidate his achievements for the prosperity of the country.
“My good people of Kaduna, it is good to be back here again. You have listened to many speeches, and I am not going to bore you. I am happy to be here. I must thank you for your participation in the past elections.
“You gave me joy, and I will always remember the victory you gave me to become President. I have come again to thank you and seek your mandate for a second term to fulfil our promise of prosperity, continuity, progress and development,” he said.
Tinubu blamed past leaders, some of whom are in the race with him, for the country’s woes.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger. Who created it? They did. They created hunger and poverty. We are trying to eradicate them. We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working, and I am proud of them. They are developing their states.
“To you, the children of our country, we promise prosperity in our second term. You will not regret going to the polls. Do you have your PVC? Do you have your PVC? Raise your hands!
“This is not a matter of anger. Our opponents are angry because they have nothing to offer you but heckling.
We have prosperity, consistency, growth, recovery and opportunity. I assure you of that.”
Tinubu called on Nigerians to vote for him and other APC candidates in the 16 January 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections, as well as governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls.
“Thank you for this massive turnout. It is a promise. Come January 2027, on January 16, you must go out en masse to elect me again. APC all the way! APC for our governors, APC for our senators, APC for our honourable members of the House of Representatives, and APC for all the Houses of Assembly.
“Your prosperity is here. Your good fortune is in your hands. Your fingerprints will reflect this. Be careful. Watch them. Do not let them lie to you.
“What is past is past. Fuel subsidy is in our past. No more corruption, no more falsification of invoices, no more lies and no more smuggling.
We are ushering in a new era under the President. I promise you once again a better tomorrow.”
Also speaking, the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, assured President Tinubu that northern Nigeria is 101% behind him in the 2027 general election.
Similarly, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, intensified mobilisation of support for Tinubu’s re-election in his home state of Rivers and the nation’s capital, both of which he is the APC Presidential Campaign Council Coordinator for.
In Rivers, Wike addressed a rally organised by youths of the Rivers Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt, where he declared that the state will support Tinubu in the 2027 election and dismissed the presidential ambitions of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
He described Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as untrustworthy, and Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a “fake” politician who relies heavily on social media popularity.
Back to FCT, the Minister interacted with political stakeholders under the Rainbow coalition in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, where he maintained that the nation’s capital and Rivers state will deliver the president in next year’s polls.
At a similar interface in the Bwari Area Council, he urged residents to avoid repeating what he described as the political mistake of the 2023 general election and support Tinubu.
Meanwhile, the African Action Congress (AAC) formally requested President Tinubu’s approval to hold the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja and demanded logistical support for 5,000 participants.
In a letter dated 21 October 2026 and signed by National Secretary Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena, the party fielding Omoyele Sowore as its presidential candidate, said it wants to stage the ceremony on 11 November 2026 “in preparation for the 2027 general elections.”
The AAC also requested the provision of food, drinks and other logistical support for the 5,000 expected attendees from within Nigeria and abroad, saying the request was made “consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the APC) for a similar political engagement.”
Tinubu had inaugurated his campaign team in the conference hall of the Presidential Villa, and the event attracted criticisms from the opposition.
Also, NDC rescheduled the inauguration of its National Campaign Council earlier slated for last Tuesday to tomorrow -Monday.
National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, Osa Director, in a statement, said the shift was occasioned by the very tight schedule of the party’s presidential candidate, Obi, who has an important overseas engagement.
On the other hand, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, unveiled his RESET agenda at the party’s South-South town hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as a proposed alternative to the policies of President Tinubu’s administration.
The Oyo state governor promised to introduce tax incentives for businesses, improve education and security, as well as address militancy in the Niger Delta if elected President in 2027.
He said the agenda was designed to restructure Nigeria’s economic, educational, security and political systems to address persistent poverty and improve citizens’ living conditions.
