Deputy governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Gubana, has flagged off the 7th distribution of learning materials and payment of school fees by Gorbo Orphanage Foundation in Damagum, Fune local government area of the state.
In his address at the event, the deputy governor, who is also the founder of the foundation, said one of the surest ways of getting the pleasure of Almighty Allah is showing kindness to orphans and the less privileged.
Gubana expressed appreciation to Governor Mai Mala Buni for encouraging him in running the foundation and similar humanitarian activities for the development of a peaceful and an egalitarian society. He enjoined the attendees to continue to seek after the wellbeing of orphans.
Highlights of the occasion included the laying of the foundation stone for the commencement of the construction of Gorbo Orphanage Home, Islamiyya and Learning Centre by the deputy governor.
Meanwhile, the foundation has established 63 learning centres in various communities for the beneficiaries to have basic Islamic knowledge.
In his keynote address, the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Chiroma Buba Mashio, described education as an important indicator of children’s wellbeing and future life opportunity.
The guest speaker and grand patron of the foundation, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said an orphan is a person who has lost his father or both parents before the age of maturity.
He appealed to the well-to-do individuals to emulate the deputy governor by sponsoring orphans’ education.
The beneficiaries were drawn from Ngelzarma, Garin Idi Barde, Damagum, Gubana, Daura, Gaba Tasha, and Dogon Kuka among others.
